Sri Lanka was the champion of the last Asia Cup, 2022 in UAE. They belong to group B. Charith Asalanka and Sadeera scored fifties, which proved to be very helpful for their team even though the condition on the pitch was very difficult. Consequently, their performance put Sri Lanka close to making them to Super 4.

Charith Asalanka and Sadeera

Asalanka played an innings of 62 runs on 92 balls. The tricky pitch of Pallekele needed to play with aggression and Asalanka did the same against the weak bowling of Bangladesh. Bangladesh gave a target of 165 runs to Sri Lanka which initially proved difficult to them with a score of 43 for 3 out. Asalanka and Samarwickrama started a partnership in the middle of a match. Bangladesh thought that they had a chance to win the game but Sri Lanka had Samarwickrama whom they needed.

Samarwickrama decided to let the scoreboard add his runs. Against the Bangali player Taskin, he hit the boundaries twice and covered the whole game amazingly. On the other hand, he had to steadily focus on scoring more runs as they lost wickets already.

Dasun PArtnership

When Asalanka joined him, they initially kept scoring singles and had great game pressure which was later released by Samarwickrama as he hit some fours against Shakib in the 19th over. Samarwickrama, before getting out scored 78 runs with Asalanka while Mehdi Hasan was on the bowling side. Due to Shakib’s bowling De Silva got out which once again put Sri Lanka in trouble. Shanaka came to pitch with Asalanka to continue their efforts towards victory. Their performance forced Bangladesh to wish they had got a chance to fully play the 50 overs. Additionally, Najmul Hossain showing courage scored 89 runs against Sri Lanka. They got all of their players out for 164 scores. At last, by 5 wickets and 66 balls Sri Lanka became victorious chasing 164 scores.
