India VS Bangladesh, ASIA CUP 2023

Asia Cup once again provided an exciting and suspenseful experience in the India vs. Bangladesh match. The 6th match of the Super Four series was held yesterday at R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. Additionally, the Bangladesh team was considered weak against India. Surprisingly, team Bangladesh set a target of 265 runs. Whereas, the addition of new players and some changes from the last match caused India to be defeated. The pitch favored the spinners. Shakib’s batting & Tanzim’s bowling changed the whole game.

Let’s check out the Playing XI of both teams;

India gave a chance to some players who had not participated in Asia Cup 2023. Three of them performed very well including Shami who seemed to be ready for the World Cup, Gill who did not score a century for the last three months and Axar did a great batting. However, the absence of Kuldeep troubled Indian bowlers against left-handed batsmen.

Secondly, Nasum Ahmed and Shakib scored 124 runs from 130 balls. Till then Bangladesh had lost four wickets and scored just 59 runs. Two left-arm spinners of India gave 70 runs to Left hand batsmen of Bangladesh in 60 balls. Meanwhile, the off spinners from Bangladesh gave 57 runs in 57 balls to right handed players from India. In the end part of the match they even took the wicket of gill.

On the other hand, it was a challenging situation for Bangladesh when they could only score 59 runs after a loss of 4 wickets. Contrarily, India was unable to catch four times during the batting of Shakib and Hridoy. Shami, Thakur, and Krishna tried to control the situation. India felt disappointed as the spinners took advantage of the ball sticking to the ground. Shakib had a chance of giving a reaction but he played slowly with patience showing a good game. He then stunned opponents hitting three sixes.

Shubam's Century

Additionally, Hridoy scored fifty runs but he scored them even slower than Shakib. But he impressed the audience with his strategy. Tilak Verma got two sixes from Hridoy as well.

Thakur returned to get rid of Shakib and then Ravindra Jadeja took his 200th wicket in one-day international cricket. However, Bangladesh recovered from a difficult position of 161 for 6 in the 35th over to not only play out the remaining overs but also score 93 runs in the last 12 overs.
The most exciting part of the win may have been that even though they didn’t have their full team of fast bowlers, Bangladesh introduced a new and impressive fast bowler. Tanzim caused trouble for India’s team with his swift and aggressive performance, similar to Mashrafe Mortaza’s style. The pitch became more challenging as the game progressed. He managed to remove both crease movement and uneven bounce from the surface. Tilak bowled Rohit out when he tried to defend the ball with his bat.
Shakib didn’t attack aggressively, instead, he relied on his spinners to keep the players from making mistakes for a long time. India had two players who were playing well and were at the batting crease. They were facing the offspring of Mahedi Hasan and not only faced but also trusted it. In two overs, Mahedi gave away only three runs. KL Rahul, who scored 19 runs off 38 balls, decided to take a risk by hitting the ball towards midwicket because he was too close to the pitch.

Bangladesh Player Out

Ishan Kishan didn’t feel at ease and tried to avoid trouble by moving in the opposite direction. However, Mehidy Hasan managed to get him out leg before wicket for 5 runs off 15 balls. Although Suryakumar Yadav scored 26 runs off 34 balls, he struggled to find safe ways to rotate the strike against spin bowling. He continued to not show up until Shakib hit the stumps and got him out.

Gill, on the other hand, batted extremely well. He had to tap off spinners sometimes, which showed that the pitch was difficult and the bowling was excellent. However, he managed to avoid making mistakes in length by digging deep into the wrinkle. Additionally, he hit five sixes by quickly moving forward on the pitch. His first hundred runs in a chase were also the most challenging out of his five in a young career.

Ishan Kishan was not at ease and tried to find a way out of trouble while facing the bowler Mehidy Hasan. However, he got out by lbw, scoring only 5 runs off 15 balls. Even though Suryakumar Yadav only scored 26 runs off 34 balls, he struggled to keep the strike against spin bowlers by not making safe choices. He told them to hit the ball on the ground and take a chance by hitting it far away. He continued to skip school until Shakib hit his off stump hard.
In any case, Gill didn’t receive support from the other person’s perspective. Ravindra Jadeja was hitting singles easily in his short time at the crease. Jadeja made a mistake and got bowled when Mustafizur Rahman bowled two perfect deliveries to him in the 38th over.

Right now, Gill and Axar needed 96 runs from 74 balls. They formed a strong partnership and scored 39 runs in six overs. However, Gill got tired and couldn’t continue due to an impressive bowling performance from Mahedi. First of all, it is brave to bowl off-spin to a right-hand batter, especially to Gill, during the late stages of the game. But on top of that, Mahedi returned from a big hit by throwing the ball in a different direction and out of Gill’s range, causing him to make a mistake and hit the ball towards long-off. Gill made 121 runs out of a total of 209 runs when he was playing.

Axar was injured on his wrists and thigh, but he still managed to keep India in the game. At the age of 27, within 14 attempts, he somehow managed to hit the off-spin off Mahedi for consecutive boundaries. This seemed to give India an advantage with two overs left, but Mustafizur had different plans.
Confusion occurred when Thakur looked unsure after hitting a gentle throw straight to a defender, but Axar was tired from a slower throw. Moreover, the team asked Tanzim to score 12 runs in the last over and he successfully finished the game.

India Defeated

Although it may seem untrue, winning a close match against India is always appreciated by Bangladesh. Especially, considering the many disappointments they have experienced in thrilling games against India. The situation began to change late last year when Mehidy, the cricket player, achieved a victory with only one wicket in a one-day international match.

Bangladesh dominated and won the match by 6 runs.
