This stadium is operated and owned by Maharashtra Cricket Association (MCA). Its capacity for spectators is 37,406. Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium

History

Nehru Stadium, in downtown Pune, used to be the hometown of these teams and was also used for international matches organized by MCA, before the existence of this stadium. This stadium came into existence because of the dispute between MCA and Pune Municipal Corporation on ticket allocations for Nehru Stadium. Due to this conflict, the international match between Sri Lanka and India was then played in Kolkata as this venue was not in a position to host this match.

The groundbreaking ceremony of this iconic venue was performed on 21 October 2007 and inaugurated on 1st April 2012 by the president of BCCI and ICC, Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar. Its first phase construction contract was with M/S Shapoorji Pallonji & Co. LTD Company in November 2009 and the construction was started on 14 November 2007.

In 2013, the naming rights were bought by an Indian Company Sahara Indian Pariwar, and the stadium was renamed the Subrata Roy Sahara Stadium, but again its name changed to Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium because Sahara was paid just one part of Rs. 200 crores. In November 2015, this arena was one of the new six test venues.
