Nepal Playing Eleven

Nepal Cricket team, also known as, ‘Cardiac Kids’, is undoubtedly, one of the emerging cricket teams. The team is famous for having nail-biting wins. The Cricket Association of Nepal is the governing body of the team. They have become members of the ICC since 1996. In 2014, the team got the T20 International status from the International Cricket Council. In 2018, Nepal were awarded ODI status. Nepal Cricket team is also famous for Rhinos as their emblem has a horned Rhino. Rohit Paudel is leading Nepal cricket team, whereas Delhi Capital’s former spinner Sandeep Lamicchane is also a part of the team.

In the beginning, cricket in Nepal was limited due to ruling of Rana Family and other individuals of the elite class. CAN formed in 1946 and cricket started to disperse. However, until the 1980s, these games were constrained to Kathmandu only. The current Nepal cricket team has a balanced squad, consisting of huge hitters as openers, all-rounders who provide the strength of middle order, and bowlers who can thwart the opponent. Cricket Nepal has included most of the all-rounders in its squad.

Kaushal Bhurtel

Kaushal Bhurtel was born on 22 January 1997, in Nepal. He serves as a right-hand batsman and right-arm fast-medium bowler. Kaushal made his international ODI debut in 2019 in South Asian games. He has scored one century and 6 half-centuries in his ODI career. His best score in ODI is 115 runs against Namibia at TU Cricket Ground.

The right-handed batsman opens innings for Nepal and has become the highest run scorer for Nepal this season. He has smacked 544 runs, including 3 half-centuries and one century in 19 ODIs. Consequently, he has the record of top-run scorer while playing as an opener. Bhurtel will aid his side in building a strong opening partnership.

Asif Sheikh was born on 22 January 2001 in Birjung, Nepal. He serves as a right-hand batsman and wicket keeper for his side. Sheikh ODI’s cap number is 24. He made his debut against PNG in 2021. He has scored 1 century and 9 half-centuries in his ODI career.

Sheikh is the wicket-keeping opening batsman for Nepal Cricket Team playing eleven. He is not only good at keeping the stumps but also hitting the runs. Sheikh hit 532 runs, including 4 half-centuries and 1 ton in 18 ODIs. Thus, Asif has registered the record of top-run scorer while playing in the second position.

Bhim Sharki

Shariki is famous for playing the top knock of an unbeaten 77 in 1 game. He is a middle-order batsman. Likewise, he has made a good impression by scoring 3 fifties in ODI games. He played 14 ODIs this year and slammed 409 runs in 14 games with an average of 38. Shakri was born on 26 September 2001 in Kanchanpur, Nepal.

Rohit Paudel

Rohit Paudel will lead Nepal in the Asia Cup 2023. The right-handed batsman has a record of being the first Nepal player to surpass 1000 runs in a day international and the highest run scorer in ODI. 

He scored 524 runs this year, including three fifties this year. Paudel will strengthen the Nepalese middle order. Although he bats at number 4, his highest score is 126 runs off 107 balls versus PNG in March last year while batting at number five position.

The left-arm Spinner is a vital all-rounder for this tournament. Having scored 1 ton and 3 fifties, he is the second in his side to have the highest runs this year. Over the course of 19 games this season, he has also claimed 11 scalps.

Malla holds the record for scoring the fastest century for his side. His best score as a number 6 player in ODI is 108 runs versus Oman in ACC Premier Cup 2023. Malla was born on 16 September 1990 in Nepal. He serves as a right-hand batsman and right-arm leg spinner. He got his ODI cap against Netherlands in 2018.

Airee is one of the crucial all-rounders. With the bat, he scored 360 runs in 19 games. The right-arm off-spinner has also claimed 17 victims. D. Singh played at number 4 and often at fifth position till 2022. Airee was born on 24 January 2000 in Kanchanpur. He received his ODI cap against the Netherlands in 2018.

 Now, the polished all-rounder is a key factor for Nepal’s lower order. His best score is 105 runs against Papua New Guinea in 2022. He has scored one century and two half-centuries. His best bowling figures are 3 for 18. He has scored 857 run with an average of 19.9 in his ODI career.

He received his ODI cap against the Netherlands in 2018.

He took five-fer for five three times. Karan got his central contract from CAN in September 2020. His highest batting score is 42. Five for thirty-three is his best bowling record. He provides strength at the tail and assists his side to increase their runs at the end. His highest score is 31 runs not out against Scotland in the CWC League.

Right arm medium pacer will aid charm to Nepal pace attack. With an economy of 4.93, he took 13 wickets in 13 matches. The emerging all-rounder is used according to the situation of the match. Jha was born on 17 February 2006 in Nepal. After making his debut vs. the United States, he became the youngest cricketer in international cricket.

His bowling style is right-arm medium and his batting style is the left-hand batter. His Cap number is 27, and he debuted in 2018. He frequently plays in the 9th position. He has scored 57 runs not out against Ireland in 2023, which is also his highest run score.

The left-arm medium bowler has played 3 matches so far. He grabbed 2 wickets with an economy of 2.28. GC will play as a middle-order player. GC was born in Pyuthan on 22 May 2004. He got his ODI cap against the UAE in February 2023.

He serves as an all-rounder for Nepal, where he plays as a right-hand batter and left-arm medium pacer. However, he has not taken any five-fer yet. Although Pratish has not played much ODI cricket, his strike rate of 120 in DT20 indicates him a good addition to his side.

Sandeep Lamichhane

Sandeep Lamichhane

Lamichhane is undoubtedly the team’s most successful player because he has taken 42 wickets in 19 matches this season. The leg spinner also assisted his side to qualify for the Asia Cup 2023. Lamichhane was born on 3 August 2003 in Syangja, Nepal. He made his debut against the Netherlands in 2018. He was made the captain of his side in 2021.

However, due to severe allegations, he was removed from the post. In September 2022, he was named the Player of the Month by the ICC. Sandeep often plays in the 9th and 10th position, but sometimes he does play at the 11th position. Twenty-six not out is his highest run score while playing at 11 position versus the UAE at Dubai International Stadium in 2023.

In addition, the upcoming tournament includes six teams, Pakistan, India, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, and Nepal. The opening match will be played between the hosts and Nepal Cricket Team playing eleven on August 30. Format of the event is ODI and will be played from 30 August to 17 September.

Although Sri Lanka is six times defending champion of the game, Nepal has also performed well in pre-qualifiers. This event will serve as a dress rehearsal prior to the World Cup 2023.
