THE NETHERLANDS CRICKET TEAM

The Netherlands Cricket Team, also called The Flying Dutchman, is governed and operated by the Royal Dutch Cricket Association. British soldiers debuted Cricket in the Netherlands in 1856, and afterward, the Netherlands played its first match in 1881. Subsequently, the Netherlands became an associate member of the ICC in 1996 and is seeking full membership by 2025.

In ICC rankings, The Dutch Team is at number 14 in the ODI format with 1044 points and 28 matches being played. In T20I, the team is at number 16 with 3445 points and 19 matches being played. However, this team is still a non-test team as it has not acquired the status of a Test Team. 

The Netherlands played their ODI debut match in 2008 and enjoyed the entire One Day International status from 1 January 2006 until 1 February 2014. Later, the team recovered the status by winning the 2015–17 ICC World Cricket League Championship. The squad regained T20I status in June 2014. In April 2018, the ICC granted full Twenty20 International status to its members, including the Netherlands. Hence, all T20 matches played afterward were a full T20I.

Growth of International Cricket in the Netherlands

Undeniably, The Dutch competed in all eight ICC Trophy competitions between 1979 and 2005. They were runner-up twice in 1986 and 1990 and, ultimately, won the ICC Trophy in Canada in 2001. Netherlands participated in all eleven ICC Trophy and World Cup Qualifier competitions. Moreover, the Netherlands Team competed in the 1996, 2003, 2007, and 2011 Cricket World Cups.

Moreover, the Netherlands participated in the ICC Cricket World Cups in 1996, 2003, 2007, and 2011. Netherlands has also participated in T20 World Cups in 2009, 2014 and 2016. The Pinnacle Moment for The Dutch happened in June 2009 when the Netherlands concurrently defeated England at Lord’s in a thrilling final ball. The Dutch Men replicated this thrilling accomplishment by beating Ireland in 2014 to go to the Super-10 stage in Bangladesh.

Max O'Dowd T20I Debut

Max is undoubtedly an aggressive batter most suited for the limited-overs game. Moreover, he is a right-handed batsman who is challenging for bowlers to dismiss. In the 2012 European Challenge Series, Max has represented the Dutch at U19.

Max played his debut match in 2015 against Nepal, and undoubtedly, he played like a professional batter. Ultimately, his brilliant performance made the match very difficult for Nepal. Scott Edwards (Wicket-Keeper/Captain) of The Netherlands Cricket Team

Scott Edwards is an Australian-Dutch cricketer who made his first-class debut in the 2015-2017 ICC International Cup against Namibia. Moreover, after Pieter Seeler’s retirement, Edwards was nominated as the new ODI Captain. He is the seventh ODI Captain after Pieter Seeler, who was retired due to a long-term back fracture.

Barresi is a former South African player who has represented Eastern Cricket at many levels. His first-class cricket debut was in 2003 against the Titans. Barresi positively embraced this chance, scoring a massive 57 against one of the most challenging teams.

Saqib Zulfiqar made his first-class List A debut for the Dutch against UAE in 2017. Moreover, he played alongside his brothers Sikandar and Asad in the same match. Subsequently, it became the only illustration of triplets playing together for the international cricket team in the same match.

Bas de Leede from the Netherlands ODI team

Bastiaan Franciscus Wilhelmus de Leede is the son of Tim de Leede, who played in 29 ODIs for the Netherlands. De Leede played a List A debut match for the Royal Netherlands Cricket Board XI against Zimbabwe in 2017. In the same year, he played against Namibia in the 2015–17 ICC Intercontinental Cup.

Ryan Klein is a South African player holding a Dutch passport and plays for the Netherlands. On 17 October 2019, Klein made his first-class debut for Western Province.

Vivian Jilling Kingma was first selected in the squad for the 2015 ICC World T20 Qualifier. Unfortunately, Roelof van der Merwe replaced him in the final moments. Teja Nidamanuru

Teja Nidamanuru is an Indian-born cricketer holding a Dutch passport. Nidamanuru plays for the Netherlands team; he has also represented Auckland in New Zealand’s domestic cricket. He was selected in the Dutch ODI squad in May 2022, in a series against West Indies.

Furthermore, in 2019, he became an assistant coach at Kampong Cricket Club.
