New Zealand Cricket Team Playing 11-Player List, Role in Team and Their Profile

The New Zealand national cricket team famously known as Kiwis or Black Caps represents New Zealand at the International level. It is a full member of the International Cricket Council(ICC). New Zealand Cricket is the organizer of the New Zealand National Cricket Team. 

 In 1930, the New Zealand team played the 1st test match against England. At that time, the New Zealand team was the 5th country to play a test match. And it won its 1st test match in 1950 after 26 years of its debut match. The 1st ODI match was played by the national team in 1973. 

The current T20I and ODI captain of the New Zealand squad is Kane Williamson. Tim Southee is the current test team captain of the NZ team. The records of the New Zealand team have shown that it has played a total of 794 ODI matches till now. According to stats, New Zealand won 366 lost, 7 matches were tied and 42 matches went without any result.

According to ICC ranking, the team is ranked 3rd in ODI, 5th in Test and 5th in T20I. The New Zealand team has participated in all 29 ICC events out of which it made final appearances in six matches with an overall winning percentage of 46.09.

  • In 1973 against Pakistan, the highest 10th wicket partnership was played by Brian Hastings and Richard Collinge with 151 score.
  • Brendon McCullum was the first batsman of the New Zealand team to score two centuries in Twenty 20. He also held the record of highest individual score in T20I scoring 123 runs. This record was broken by Aaron Finch with 156 score. 
  • Ross Taylor is the 1st cricket player who has played 100 ODI, T20Is and Tests.
  • November 23, 1980, John Bracewell was the 1st and only fielder to take four catches in an ODI against Australia.
  • Guptill is known for the record for most career runs (2,271) and most sixes (103) in T20I.

Kane Williamson (captain)

Kane Stuart Williamson was born on August 08, 1990 in Tauranga, New Zealand. He belongs to a sports family as his father played under-17 cricket, his mother was a basketball player and his sister was a volleyball player. 

Williamson is the captain and backbone of the New Zealand cricket team and he is the most loved global figure in cricket. A right -handed batsman and right arm off-spin bowler is an outstanding catcher and very comfortable against spinners and pacers. He has the ability to perform under pressure. His amazing captaincy skills make him an outstanding cricket player.

In 2010, he made his test debut against India and scored a century in his debut match at the age of 20. He scored a double century in a test match which was among his best performances. New Zealand Cricket Team Playing Eleven. In 2016, Williamson was elected as captain of the New Zealand team.

Under his captaincy, the New Zealand team won four back to back matches in India. He was the 4th NZ captain who won the series against England in April 2018. He is the 1st player of New Zealand to score 25 centuries in Test matches in 2019.

In the 2019 world cup, Williamson was player of the tournament. His records included two match winning centuries against West Indies and South Africa. As of September, 2023, he has played 13 ODI and 28 Test centuries. Williamson’s highest score in ODI is 148 and Test score is 251. In June 2014, he was banned from bowling due to his illegal action in international matches.

Finn Allen

Finnley Hugh Allen was born on April 22, 1999, in Auckland, New Zealand. He has been playing for the New Zealand cricket team since March 2021. He is a right-handed batsman with Right-arm off-break bowling style.

Allen selected in the New Zealand U-19 cricket world cup in December 2017. On the opening day of his career, he made a 1st century with 115 not out against the West Indies. While playing against Kenya, Allen scored a half century on just 19 balls in the 2nd match of the tournament.

On July 10, 2022, he made his ODI debut. From his start till now he has played 18 ODI matches and scored 533 runs with an average of 31. In his ODI career, he has hit 14 sixes and 69 fours. 

He played his 1st T20 match in January 2017. In the T20 career of Finn Allen, with an average of 22, he has played 29 matches with 637 runs. He has hit 39 sixes and 62 fours in his all T20 matches.

Nenry Nicholls 

Henry Michael Nicholls was born on November 15, 1991 in Christchurch, New Zealand. He played for the New Zealand international cricket team. He is a left handed batsman with Right-arm off-break bowling style. 

Nenry Nicholls is the top order batsman of the NZ cricket squad. He is an aggressive , fluent stroke maker and organized player. He plays with sound technique and his career is unquestionable since his debut. He enjoys playing white ball cricket.

Devon Conway

Devon Philip Conway was born on July 08, 1991 in Johannesburg, South Africa. He plays as a team member of NZ Cricket team. He is a left handed batsman with Right-arm medium bowling style. He also plays his role in the team as an efficient wicket-keeper. Adaptability across all cricket formats is one of his biggest strengths. 

The ICC confirmed his eligibility to perform for the New Zealand Team from August 28, 2020 in March 2020. In May 2020, he was awarded a central contract in the New Zealand team. In November 2020, Conway made his international debut.

Tom Latham 

Thomas William Maxwell Latham was born on April 02, 1992 in Christchurch, Canterbury, New Zealand. His father Rod Latham was a former all-rounder of the NZ team. He is a left handed batsman with Right-arm medium bowling style.

On February 14, 2014, Tom played his 1st Test match. He has played 74 matches in his Test career history and has scored 5,150 runs. Tom Latham has hit 18 sixes and 584 fours in all Test Matches.

Daryl Mitchell 

Daryl Joseph Mitchell was born on May 20, 1991 in Hamilton, New Zealand. Former New Zealand player and Coach John Mitchell is his father. He is an all-rounder with Right-handed batting style and Right-arm medium style bowling. He plays in all cricket formats for the New Zealand cricket team.

Michael Bracewell

Michael Bracewell was born on February 14, 1991 in Masterton, New Zealand. He has a strong cricketing background as he is the son of 1st class player Mark and nephew of former test player John Bracewell and Brendon. The comedian Melanie Bracewell and international cricketer Doug Bracewell are his cousins. He is an all-rounder who bats with Left-hand and Right-arm off break bowler. He also loves to play Basketball. In March 2022, Michael made his international debut for New Zealand’s T20I and ODI teams. 

On June 10, 2022, Michael played his Test debut against England. Till now, he has played a total of 8 Test matches with 259 runs. According to his Test stats, he has hit 2 sixes and 34 fours.

Mitchell Santner 

Mitchell Josef Santner was born February 05, 1992 in Hamilton, New Zealand. He is an international cricketer of New Zealand who can play across all cricket formats. He is an all-rounder who bowls slow left-arm orthodox and bats Left-handed.

Lockie Ferguson

A fast bowler Lachlan Hammond Ferguson was born on June 13, 1991 in Auckland, New Zealand. He is a pace bowler with Right-arm fast bowling style. He has the ability to bowl at the speed of more than 90 meters per hour. His fastest bowled speed is 97.7 meter/hour. He has been part of the New Zealand team since 2016. Lockie is one of the fastest bowlers in the world.

Lockie Ferguson

Trent Boult

Trent Alexander Boult was born on July 22, 1989 in Rotorua, New Zealand. He joined the New Zealand team in 2018. He is a pace bowler with a left-arm fast-medium bowling style and Right-handed batter. His bowling is a threat to batsmen and he has the ability to swing the ball in both ways. 

Trent Boult was the winner of World Test Championship 2019-202. He is the 1st NZ bowler to take a hat-trick in the Cricket World Cup and is the 3rd New Zealand bowler to take a hat-trick in ODI. Owing to his brilliant performance, Trent was awarded Sir Richard Hadlee Medal for the best International cricketer of the year at the New Zealand Cricket awards.

According to ICC bowling ranking, Boult stands at 16th position in Test, 7th in ODI and 34th in T20 format

On December 09, 2011, Boult made his Test debut against Australia. In his Test career, he played a total of 78 matches and took 317 wickets conceding 3 runs per over. 

Trent Boult played his 1st ODI match on July 11, 2012 against West Indies. He has played 99 ODI matches and taken 187 wickets. He made his T20 debut on February 09, 2013 against England. He took 74 wickets in 55 T20 matches to date.

Tim Southee

Timothy Grant Southee was born on December 11, 1988 in Whangārei, Northland, New Zealand. he is captain of NZ team in Test and vice-captain inT20I. He is bowling all-rounder with Right-arm fast-medium bowling style and is lower order batsman. 

The two main tools of Southee’s trade are pace and out-swing. Tim Southee has the ability to generate late out-swing at a brisk pace and to read surfaces quickly, thereby he readjust his pace accordingly. He is 1st NZ player to take 300 wickets in test matches and is the youngest bowler of New Zealand who made his debut at the age of 19. At the 2011 ICC World Cup, he took 18 wickets at 17.33 and became 3rd highest wicket-taker

Throughout his career, he has played 94 test matches, 154 ODI and 11 T20 matches. Currently, he is ranked at 14th in Test, 51st in ODI and 27th position in T20 in the ICC bowling ranking.
