Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, also renowned as New VCA Stadium was built in 2008 and is considered to be the largest cricket stadium in terms of the playing area. It is present in Jamtha on the southern boundary of Nagpur city of Maharashtra, India

Ownership

This stadium is owned by the Vidarbha Cricket Association. The VCA used to own a cricket ground before this stadium but with the increasing demands, the New VCA Stadium came into existence.

History

The previous ground owned by the VCA became outdated with time. With the increase in the popularity of cricket in India, this stadium was unable to fulfill the demands of the new times. 

Hence, in 2004, Mr. Shashank Manohar, the president of the association at that time, chose to build an international-level stadium at Jamtha, 16 kilometers from the Civil Lines, and in 2008, the new stadium with better facilities and infrastructure of International standards was introduced to the cricket world. 

The 1st match to be played in this stadium was an international test match between India and Australia.

The stadium is the update of the previous cricket ground (which had a seating capacity of around 40000) and has a seating capacity of 45,000.

Pitch Type

This Stadium has a very balanced pitch offering an equal edge to both bowlers and batsmen. The pitch is best suited for the test matches, therefore, a large number of test matches have been played here in this stadium.

Infrastructure

Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium was designed and built by Shashi Prabhu. Shashi did an extraordinary job in designing this stadium. It has 13 entrance points for fast movement of cricket fans. Moreover, it has 39 corporate boxes, each with a seating capacity of 15. 

The Media box of this stadium is one of its kind with advanced technology and modern facilities, with a capacity of 187 persons.

This stadium has received appreciation from many legendary cricketers as well as the International Cricket Council (ICC) because of its marvelous facilities. Sachin Tendulkar remarked that “the facilities exceeded all expectations,” and Ricky Ponting mentioned how comfortable the locker rooms were.

A reasonable sitting space, a gym, a private lunch room, a medical room, etc. are all included in the spacious and elegantly designed pavilion.

This stadium is the home ground of the Vidarbha domestic cricket team and Central Zone cricket teams. Furthermore, this stadium is also used to host the domestic Ranji Trophy as well as Duleep Trophy.
