Who Won England Vs Afghanistan 13th Match of World Cup 2023 – 15 Oct Match Performance, Scores Updates

The thrilling match between England and Afghanistan took place at Arun Jaitley Stadium, India. It was the 13th match of the ICC World Cup 2023 on October 15, 2023.

England won the toss. After winning, they pick out to bowl first. The decision went wrong. The Afghanistan team had faced defeat in their previous two matches. On the other hand, England entered the field with a win and a defeat. Afghanistan was not such a strong team, so it seemed that the victory would be in favor of England. But Afghanistan proved everyone wrong by showing their excellent performance.

Playing first, they made 284 runs for the loss of 10 wickets, but the England team could only score 215. Thus, Afghanistan claimed this wonderful victory. Mujeeb Ur Rahman was named Player of the Match after taking three wickets.

For the first innings, the Afghanistan team came into the ground with renewed enthusiasm. The Afghanistan team was disappointed after two consecutive defeats. They started their game brilliantly. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran started to play. He single-handedly scored 80 runs for the loss of 57 balls for Afghanistan to win. Additionally, Ibrahim supported him a lot. But he could not score more runs and added only 28 runs for the loss of 48 balls.

England took the first wicket in 16.4 overs. Ibrahim was caught out by Adil Rashid, then Rahmat Shah supported Rahmanullah. But he could only score three runs and was dismissed by Adil Rashid. Unfortunately, in the very next ball, Rahmanullah was run out while making runs and returned to the pavilion. At that time, Afghanistan’s total score was 122/3. After that, Hashmatullah Shahidi and Azmatullah Omarzai started to play but they could not add more runs. Azmatullah dug his wicket on the ball of Livingstone. Mohammad Nabi, who has been the leading player and previous captain of the team, just scored nine runs. Mark Wood took his wicket.

Rashid Khan scored 23 runs and Mujeeb Ur Rahman supported him and played an innings of 28 runs. Mujeeb kicks out Mark. The team gave him 284 runs to chase. Adil Rashid took three wickets for the England team. Two chases were made by Mark Wood. Liam Livingstone, Joe Root, and Reece Topley could only get one out each. Chris Woakes did not get any wickets. In this respect, Afghanistan gave the target of 285 runs to chase.

England faced a lot of trouble in the 2nd innings as Afghanistan’s bowlers were giving power hitters a tough time. Only one player of the team, Harry Brook added 66 runs off 61 balls. But these runs did not work for England. David Malan played 39 balls and scored 32 runs. Mohammad Nabi dismissed him. 

England looked to be under pressure early on but it wasn’t long before England got back into the game when Harry Brook completed his 50. Livingstone also played very slowly. Sam Curran could only make 10 of his 23 balls. While Livingstone also failed to score just ten runs off 14 balls. The top and middle-order of the team failed badly. Mujeeb Ur Rahman made his appearance with his outstanding bowling. He bowled perfectly and Chris Woakes tried to hit a shot but the ball turned in between the bat. This ball pad onto the stumps and he declared as out. Chris just made 9 runs and 26 balls to waste. Then Adil Rashid tried hard to reach the target.

England’s batsmen gave their all but Afghanistan’s bowling did not let them run. Due to their hard work, they won by 69 runs and 9.3 overs left. In this match, the Afghanistan team came out as a better team. It was the biggest upset of the World Cup 2023. Afghanistan’s spinner gave the hard time in the powerplay and so on to the English batsmen. Mujeeb Ur Rahman became the Player of the Match due to his best bowling figure 3/51. This match has an unexpected end and exciting results.
