The New Zealand team is unbeatable to date. They played four matches so far and achieved all four victories. On the other side, the Afghanistan team had only one victory. It is bad luck and also poor partnership that they faced three defeats.

NZ batting against Afg, 16th match

At the start of the first innings, the Afghanistan bowlers put pressure on the more open batsman but they put pressure back on Afghanistan. The openers Devon Conway and Will Young give a slow but steady start. But Devon’s wicket fell after 6.3 overs. He scored just 20 runs and was out to face the ball of Mujeeb Ur Rahman. Rachin Ravindra joined the Young but the 2nd wicket fell on 109 runs. On the sixth ball of the 21st over, Young was out by Azmatullah.

The loss of 3 three wickets in just 22 overs created pressure in the team. Moreover, Daryl was out after playing 7 shots. The captain Latham and Phillips made a partnership of 144 runs. This partnership proved beneficial for the New Zealand team. Latham scored 68 runs in 74 deliveries. Additionally, he made three boundaries and hit two sixes. Phillips played powerful innings of 71 off 80 balls. Unfortunately, he was dismissed by Naveen-ul-Haq.

After breaking the partnership, Latham was also sent back to the pavilion. Back-to-back two were wickets taken by Naveen-ul-Haq and the New Zealand team was limited to a low target. Mark and Mitchell added 32 runs on target. The New Zealand team gave up 288 runs to chase. This was not a big target but did not prove easy for the Afghanistan team.

Like Afghanistan’s bowling, the batting also failed miserably. The opening batsman could not contribute any big runs. Rahmanullah and Ibrahim gave a start of only 27 runs. The first wicket was taken by Henry in the 6th over. Rahmanullah scored just 11 runs off 21 balls. Moreover, in the very next ball of the 7th over, Boult took Ibrahim’s wickets. The loss of two wickets after scoring 27 runs put pressure on the batsman.

Rahmat Shah who is a great batsman never added more score. He scored just 36 in 62 deliveries. In Addition, Afghanistan’s top-order slow innings made more trouble for them. New Zealand’s great bowlers never let them score freely. They gave a hard time to the Afghan batsmen. Hashmatullah played 29 balls but scored only 8 runs.

Both sides’ batsmen struggled to score runs but the spinners and fast bowlers did a great job. Azmatullah seemed to struggle but never succeeded in playing long shots. After Azmatullah’s dismissal, all wickets dropped one by one. All batsmen who played well in previous matches could not score runs to chase the target.

They just scored 139 runs and all players went back to the pavilion. They used 34.4 overs to get these runs. New Zealand did a great job in batting as well as in bowling. Scoring 71 runs Glenn won the title of the Player of the Match.
